Organic Brown Flax Seed

Organic brown flax seed, also known as linseed, comes from the flax plant, which is cultivated for its seeds as well as its fiber.

Organic brown flax seed is an excellent source of fiber, and also the most widely available botanical source of omega-3 fatty acids.

While flax seeds can certainly be consumed whole, unless they are thoroughly chewed and broken apart, they will pass through you undigested, robbing you of their many nutritional benefits. Grinding flax seed is a great way to ensure complete digestion and creates new opportunities to incorporate flax into your everyday diet.

Description

Organic brown flax seed.

Consider grinding the flax seed in small amounts to be eaten immediately, since ground flax can quickly become rancid (due to the exposed oil in the seed). When consuming flax seed, it is important to stay properly hydrated, otherwise it can cause intestinal discomfort. To prevent this, it is recommended that no more than 2 tablespoons of raw seed or 3 tablespoons of ground seed should be taken at one time.

Health & Nutrition

Flax Seeds Are High in Omega-3 Fats

Flax seeds can be your best source of omega-3 fats. They are a rich source of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid. ALA is one of the two essential fatty acids that you have to obtain from the food you eat, as your body does not produce them. Plant-based ALA fatty acids are proven to prevent cholesterol from being deposited in the blood vessels of the heart, reduced inflammation in the arteries, reduced tumor growth, and are linked to a lower risk of stroke.

Flax Seeds Are a Rich Source of Lignans

Flax seeds contain up to 800 times more lignans than other plant foods. Lignans are plant compounds that have antioxidant and estrogen properties, both of which may help in preventing breast and prostate cancer, as well as other types of cancer.

Gluten-Free

Using flax is a great way to naturally replace gluten-containing grains in recipes. Grains, especially those containing gluten, can be hard to digest for many people, but flax is usually easily metabolized and also anti-inflammatory. Because flax can absorb a lot of liquid and help bind ingredients you’re using in cooking/baking recipes,  flaxseeds are a good choice for those who have celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity.

May Help with Weight Loss

Since flax is full of healthy fats and fiber, it helps you feel satisfied for longer. This means you may end up eating fewer calories overall, which may support weight loss. ALA fats may also help reduce inflammation and help with hormonal balance, which could be affecting your ability to lose weight.
